Students have homework over the weekend to organize their work. I think the binder is the best for this, however, I offered them the option of folders with the understanding that folders will come back and forth to school each day, just like the binder. If they chose folders, I gave them some to bring home. Please help your kiddo to organize their binder but please, as tempting as it is, don't organize it for them. This is an executive function skill that we are working on achieving.
After special, we went to the library to play "Alan's Allowance" with Mrs. Schultz about Alan Gratz in preparation for his upcoming visit. Congrats to Jimi (he won a book!) as well as Dylan, Alexa and Luciana for winning! In Out of My Mind, Melody and her family got all packed up and ready to head to Washington, D.C. for the whiz kids competition, however, when they arrived at the airport, they discovered that there was poor weather and the flight had been canceled. The new flight wouldn't arrive until after the competition so mom asked what the other members had decided to do and the airport lady responded that the entire team actually came earlier and made an earlier flight after they had all had breakfast together. They left her. On purpose. Something happens in this next chapter but we didn't have time to figure out what it is-can't wait until Monday! Then, we read, visited the library, worked on our conference presentation, finished decorating our door for the book fair contest and worked on our word study doodle notes. Next, we dropped our Mars landers and hoped our astronauts made it safely to Mars. Some were more successful than others. Some groups were also more successful than others and we discussed the skills we need to improve upon to make the next time better: communication, planner and working with groups. In Math, Mrs. Tanner began unit 2 with decimals, my group tested on multiplication and division, Mr. Smith's kiddos also worked on multiplication and division and Mrs. Kelly was working on multiplication. After lunch and a very cold (in my opinion--see picture below) recess, we listened to Mahmoud's story which was very sad today. We also watched Flocabulary's Week in Rap!
Do you ever wonder what a school day in the life of your child looks like? Are you frustrated with the shoulder shrug you receive when asking about their day? Well, wonder no more! Read my daily blog so that you can ask more detailed questions and know more about your child's school life!
